Points of Interest in Public Report Regarding Violence – With or Without Guns

1. The research demonstrates that mandatory sentences/bans do not reduce crime.

2. Being caught is the primary deterrent for most criminals.

3. Programs such as derivatives of Operation Ceasefire demonstrate success at reducing gang behaviour - targeting gang leaders with warnings and working to resolve conflict, deterring youth at risk from entering gangs. All seem to have beneficial effects. One area of OC that was found by the literature to not be effective was preventing gun trafficking.
